All I Possess

Leaving behind false traditions in search of the true Jesus

When I Realized Heavenly Father isn’t Even My Real Father

Weird Mormon thought of the week #2:

Bear with me. Hear my logic on this.

In Mormonism, our souls have always existed. God didn’t actually create us. We existed via this little thing called an intelligence.

As the story goes, we were “intelligences” when God found us and plucked us up, and then He made our spirit bodies. Later on, when the Earth was created, He made our physical bodies.

The father of my physical body is someone I call “dad,” but I was always taught he wasn’t my real dad because Heavenly Father was my father first. And my earthly dad — well, all he did was make my body! I am so much more than a physical body. I existed before that, so he’s not my real dad.

Well, the same can be said for Heavenly Father!

All he did was make my spirit! I existed before that! So how can he be my real dad?

See the mess we are in?

Are you feeling as yucky as I am feeling right now???

Yeah. All this weird esoteric “one and only true church” stuff is, in fact, pretty creepy.

It is not Biblical in the least. This is anti-Christ.

Honestly where did all this stuff come from?

This is why outsiders think Mormonism is a crazy cult.

Without using such harsh language, I just wish I could help them understand.

But the truth is this:

God created my spirit and my body. He stitched me together in my mother’s womb (Psalm 139:13). My body, my personality, everything.

I did not exist before He made me.

However, that doesn’t make Him my premortal father.

The Bible (and the Book of Mormon!) is clear — I am adopted as God’s child (Romans 8:15-17), welcomed into the family of God, because I am reborn and cleansed through Jesus’s blood!

The natural man is an enemy to God (Mosiah 3:18). Not a child of God.

Only the blood of Jesus can reconcile the natural man and put me in God’s family!

If any human, any sinner, can be called a child of God, it is only through the miracle, the mercies, the amazing atonement of Jesus Christ!
