Today let’s talk more about the LDS claim that the Bible is corrupted and essential truths are missing from it, that needed to be restored through Joseph Smith.
Aside from the First Vision story that called all Christian creeds abominations, here are the Book of Mormon verses where that idea came from:
“Wherefore, thou seest that after the book hath gone forth through the hands of the great and abominable church, that there are many plain and precious things taken away from the book, which is the book of the Lamb of God.” (1 Nephi 13.28)
“And because of these things which are taken away out of the gospel of the Lamb, an exceedingly great many do stumble…” (1 Nephi 13:29)
Hmmm let’s see how this idea of lost truths from the Bible compares to the Bible’s own claims:
“Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.” (Matt 24:35)
“The grass withers, and the flower falls, but the word of the Lord remains forever.” (1 Peter 1:25)
“The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.” (Isaiah 40:8)
So are these Biblical claims of enduring scripture part of the verses that were corrupted? Maybe we can’t trust the Bible to testify of itself. Well, let’s look them up in the JST, which supposedly addressed all the issues and make the necessary corrections!
Here are photos of the full JST book to prove there are no corrections made. (Where you see a yellow line is showing that he skipped that verse, not making any corrections. On Matthew 24:35 he did write it out but still says essentially the same thing.)
So here we see a contradiction between the Joseph Smith approved Bible and the Book of Mormon — a striking difference!
This is just one point of doctrine out of so many where the JST still teaches mainstream Christian theology, not the differing LDS ideas! Oops.
