All I Possess

Leaving behind false traditions in search of the true Jesus

Disciples of Christ…who Ignore Christ

Earlier this week, I posted about an interview with a Mormon who said how LDS people are Christians because they strive to be disciples of Jesus Christ.

So, here’s my logical but not necessarily polished response.

First, Muslims believe Jesus was a prophet, a wise teacher. They say they like to follow his teachings also.

A Christian is more than someone who follows Christ’s teachings, for one thing.

But let’s just stick with that. Do Mormons follow Christ’s teachings?

People in the LDS faith like to think they’re disciples of Christ, but they’re really just disciples of men (whom they call prophets), and follow “Jesus” via whatever those men declare about him.

But how often do Mormons open their Bible and actually read the teachings of Christ? — and if this contradicted the idolized men, whose words would get credence?

The “prophets, seers, and revelators” always take priority. Even when they are flat out opposing Jesus Christ 180 degrees.

For example, Jesus said there is no marriage in heaven.

But the early Mormons came up with the idea of eternal marriage, so they could have a fancy sounding “new and everlasting covenant.”

The case is closed!

And Jesus said no more food laws.

But the early Mormons came up with new food laws! You can have pork, but now no wine (it’s like the opposite of the Bible). 🤷‍♀️

Not only that, but the food rules are enough to prohibit a person’s salvation! No baptism for coffee drinkers! Switch to Monster drinks and Swig instead.

The case is closed!

And then Jesus said “All who believe in me shall be saved”

And the Mormon added a billion more things you gotta do to be saved. Including things in direct opposition to what Jesus said in the very Book of Mormon!

The case is closed!

The prophet has spoken.

Jesus must have been wrong!

And that’s just a few things from what Jesus himself said.

His apostle Paul (who actually met Him personally and was instructed on how to build a church) said lots more, like how clergy should be paid and how leaders of the church should only have one wife.

But you know, God changed his mind.

And then there’s Isaiah (who was also very in tune with God, to the point of speaking words from Jehovah’s own mouth in first person) who said “There is no other like me.” I am the only God!

But he just forgot to mention there are infinite number of Gods before him, infinite number of Gods after even, and how Heavenly Father is exactly like him.

And Stephen, who preached that temples aren’t necessary anymore. We can have direct access to God without priests!

Except for when you should put on Masonic aprons and do Masonic handgrips, and take an oath to give all your material possessions to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

And this is so important, even dead people need to promise to give all their money to the church too (wait a minute, they’re dead. They don’t have any money) and only have sex with their own spouses (which Jesus just said they won’t have when they’re dead).

Hmmm okay. Yep.

Disciples of Christ all the way!

It’s not that I don’t think LDS people have good hearts and love the Lord. I think the intent is certainly there. It’s just really unfortunate that they’ve been programmed to follow Christ through a man and never even check to see if these instructions line up with what Jesus himself actually taught.

“Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person.” (1 John 2:4)

Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son.” (2 John 1:9)
