Polygamy: Justifications

This is the third in a series. You can read the first here and the second here.

When I posted on Facebook about polygamy, here’s a shocking comment I received, in justification for it.

“This was about far more than Joseph. He needed to start it. I would not be here today without polygamy. Neither would you.”

Wow.

What a damning comment!

This could be taken to mean either the church wouldn’t be here, or my literal self wouldn’t be here.

(1) Where would the LDS church be without polygamy?

Well what’s really funny about this is the fact that this woman doesn’t know how much I would have loved not being raised in the church, or how much I’d love the LDS church not existing right now 😂😂

I mean, if your church can’t survive without polygamy, that says more about your church than it does about polygamy!

If a church is God’s church, He can protect it and help it grow. God doesn’t have to come up with “exceptions to commandments” that involve sexual abominations, lying, hiding, and doctrinal changes.

However, the RLDS church survived just fine without it.

The Bickertonite church survived just fine without it.

And neither of these churches had to compromise into horrific sacrilegious doctrines either!

Damn.

(2) Where would I be without polygamy?

I’m sure God could have found a way to get me here, and create my body. Come on.

But to say a very questionable moral practice is justified because it produced posterity is just ridiculous.

Rape produces posterity.

Fornication produces posterity.

And yes lives matter and their souls are valuable to God. But that doesn’t justify the means of how they got here. It doesn’t suddenly make rape or fornication a Godly practice that needs to be committed in order to attain the highest degree of heaven.

Wow.
