(Continued from previous post.)
Another fallacy that we heard in my ward last week—telling a story of a “tender mercy” (or how God showed up for them/a small miracle occurred) and then jumping to “so I know the church is true.”
Does God not provide tender mercies for anybody who’s not Mormon?
Of course he does. God shows up for people. All people.

A third fallacy is “I felt the spirit during that conference talk, so I know he is a prophet of God” or “I felt the spirit reading the D&C, so I know the book is true.”
This is a fallacy of generalization. If a piece is good, that doesn’t mean the entire thing is good.
What was the message of the talk, or the chapter, when you felt the spirit? Is it possible that that particular principle is true, while the messenger is not particularly unique? Or while the overall book as a whole isn’t 100% everything it claims to be?
We need to learn to think critically so we don’t fall into these logical traps.
