All I Possess

Leaving behind false traditions in search of the true Jesus

The Importance of a Core Book 2

Yeah, I know it’s been a month, but I finally looked up President Nelson’s conference talk so I could know what people are referring to when they quote him.

So here are some of my thoughts on his talk.

First, I shared my thoughts about seeking Jesus and finding Him in the temple.

Another thing he said in this talk is: “In this conference, the Lord has spoken to us through His servants. I urge you to study their messages. Use them as a litmus test of what is true and what is not during the next six months.”

This statement is so offensive to anyone who is actually a Christian.

Don’t get me wrong, having something published and solid is definitely a great litmus test to discern and compare claims to, as we seek truth.

That’s called a Core Book.

A core book is a set of truths that don’t change. The book can be thousands of years old, and the teachings stand, because truth is timeless.

So the 2 problems with using a conference as a core book are:

(1) The truth doesn’t change every six months.

(2) We already have a Core Book. You know that book Jesus gave us, a long time ago?

Yeah. It still stands.

And you’re treading on it.

In fact, I used my Core Book as my litmus test to weigh your conference talks against, and your teachings fail every time.

And don’t even get me started about building church curriculum off of conference talks. And asking speakers to give a talk on a talk rather than letting them do some study and piece together their own lay sermon.

Sheesh.
