All I Possess

Leaving behind false traditions in search of the true Jesus

Rocky Places, Deserts and Salt Lands

I’ve been loving reading my Bible lately.

I always loved my Book of Mormon, but after a long day, tiredness would always win.

But lately I’ve been exhausted, on my way to bed, and then sitting to read my Bible and before I know it, it’s been 45 minutes!

My Bible conveniently sits on a couch between my daughter’s bedroom (where I put her to bed every night) and my own. How could I not stop “for a minute” and read something? ☺️

But with the help of some study aids, some really interesting parts have come to my attention this week.

Parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land where no one knows? This scripture has Brigham Young written all over it!

Last night I sat down and asked “where should I read, Lord?” I opened to this:

Follow other Gods you have not known? Like the God of polygamy and works for the dead? The God who wants us all to become Gods too, and inherit our own universe to create? 🤔

Um yeah, that’s a false prophet, people.

I shared this with a friend who said,

“This reminds me of the parable of the sower, and the seed that fell in “rocky places.” Matthew 13:5-6 (NIV) “Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root.” Jesus then identified the seed that grew in “rocky places” as “someone who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away.” (vs. 20-21)

The kind of person who withers because of persecution or other troubles is someone who “trusts in mankind” and “makes human flesh his strength” — when the persecution comes, he/she falls away and his/her “heart turns from the Lord.”

On the other hand, the tree planted by water (the opposite of the tree in the desert wilderness), “doesn’t fear when heat comes” and continues to thrive and produce fruit despite drought and the scorching sun (metaphors for persecution and other afflictions). This corresponds to the seed that fell on good soil and produced an abudant crop.”

Really good thoughts! I agree it fits!

The foundations and history of the LDS church just don’t line up with the Bible. In fact, we were warned over and over in the Bible to beware of such false prophets.

“Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse! As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let them be under God’s curse!” (Galatians 1:7-9)
