Many Mormons are very patriotic. We love our founding fathers and constitution!
But it never occurs to them that the single most important thing in the U.S. Constitution is missing from the LDS church: checks and balances.
Any US History student knows why governments need accountability. Big problems and corruption happen when you have leaders who don’t answer to each other, and don’t answer to their people.
50 leaders cut out of the same group think are equivalent to 1 king.
You need some varying ideas and opinions, but you can easily get that from listening to the people.
What would happen if the citizens of the United States put blind, unconditional trust in their political leaders? If we believed they would never lead us astray, so we didn’t bother to vote or send in letters. And we just obeyed every single injunction as if it were God himself?
Tyranny. Totalitarianism.
But somehow it’s heavenly and glorious if it’s a religious leader?
Mormons have been swindled to put their unconditional trust in men.
To never check them against scripture.
To never hold them accountable.
To never doubt, never question.
Even to attack their own friends and family members for questioning.
That, my friends, is a major red flag. Probably the #1 sign of a cult.

“Nemo the Mormon,” whom you can find on Facebook or Instagram, was recently excommunicated for doing exactly that — trying to hold the Mormon leaders accountable.
Yes, he openly criticized them and called them into question when they did something contrary to scripture or their own handbook!
He pointed out how there are certain protocols in the D&C that have not been followed, such as operating the church on “common consent.”
He sent emails and persisted until his voice was heard.
If this were political, Mormons would cheer. We completely agree and believe in abiding by our established rules of conduct.
But only when it comes to politics.
In religion, it’s fair game!
Swindle me! Abuse me! Take all the power to yourself! I give you 100% complete trust and obedience. I will never think for myself at all – I will do everything you say!
Baaaaaa.

And inasmuch as a President of the High Priesthood shall transgress, he shall be had in remembrance before the common council of the church, who shall be assisted by twelve counselors of the High Priesthood; And their decision upon his head shall be an end of controversy concerning him.
Thus, none shall be exempted from the justice and the laws of God, that all things may be done in order and in solemnity before him, according to truth and righteousness. (D&C 107:82-84)
