The Book of Mormon has many passages about judgment. They are all in agreement with each other — and none of them agree with modern LDS church doctrine.
In the Book of Mormon it is taught that the righteous go to heaven and the wicked go to hell.
(Check it out yourself — Mosiah 15:26-27; Mosiah 3:24-26, Alma 40:13, Alma 41:3-6, Alma 12:33-35; Alma 7:14-16,20; Alma 9:28.)
Sound familiar?
Yeah, it’s basic Christianity. Everybody knows this.
The Book of Mormon backs up the Bible and most every mainstream Christian teaching.
But for Mormons, there are 3 divisions of heaven — one for the wicked, one for the regular Christians or good people, and one for the elites. The temple goers.
Yes the Mormons believe wicked people go to heaven. You heard that right.
But what does their own book of scripture say?
“They shall be judged, every man according to his own works, whether they be good, or whether they be evil. And if they are evil they are consigned to an awful view of their own guilt and abominations, which doth cause them to shrink from the presence of the Lord into a state of misery and endless torment, from whence they can no more return….” (Mosiah 3:24-26)
“The spirits of the wicked have no part nor portion of the spirit of the Lord; for behold, they chose evil works rather than good…and these shall be cast out into outer darkness…” (Alma 40:13)
Does this sound like the wicked are going to heaven????
“And if their works be evil they shall be restored unto them for evil…to endless misery to inherit the kingdom of the devil…for as he desired to do evil all the day long even so shall he have his reward of evil when the night cometh.” This goes to on to say that those who have been redeemed have been taken out, delivered from that endless night of darkness. This shows that darkness is the default, and we need Jesus to save us from that default, through repentance and having a change of heart (Alma 41:3-7).
Now back to the distinction between the middle heaven and the top heaven — Regular Christians only get a portion of heaven, while temple-going Mormons get the top heaven.
The Mormons are the “best,” the “true” church, the “authorized” church, and God’s only actual church.
Guess what the Book of Mormon has to say about that?
“The gate of heaven is open into all, even those who will believe on the name of Jesus Christ, who is the Son of God.” (Helaman 3:28).
Fun fact: the Book of Mormon never says a single thing about needing ordinances beyond baptism. You know, like the Bible. It backs up the Bible. That Christian book.
“For it shall come to pass that in that day that the churches which are built up, and not unto the Lord, when one shall say to the other: Behold, I, I am the Lord’s…” (2 Nephi 28:3)
You know any church claiming that only they are the Lord’s? 🤷♀️
“Do not say: O God, I thank thee that we are better than our brethren, but rather say: O Lord, forgive my unworthiness…” (Alma 38:14)
Sounds like Mormons have some repenting to do.
I have definitely gone to the Lord in contrition for the pride I’ve held in the past, believing I was the elite, one of God’s true people, that Christians didn’t have “enough truth” and that there would be a special, higher heaven for me.
And I’m just glad the Book of Mormon is with me, and all Christians, on this.
