Just something simple and heartfelt today…
I love some of the terms and things Christians say, that I never heard in the LDS church.
I was just listening to a sermon saying God wants a relationship with us. And immediately teared up and said aloud “Why would He want a relationship with me?”
Wow.
No important person ever wanted a relationship with me.
My own parent/s don’t want a relationship with me.
What does God see in me?
He made me. He designed me. He pursues me (another Christian term).
Earlier today I read the book of Hosea (do you know how powerful it is to read a whole book in one read?) This is an amazing piece of literature/poetry about how God wants a relationship with us — even those who have turned from Him! He invites the promiscuous woman to marry Him!
“You will call me ‘my husband’ and no longer call me ‘my baal.’ For I will remove the name of the Baals from her mouth… On that day I will make a covenant for them…I will take you to be my wife forever. I will take you to be my wife in righteousness, justice, love, and compassion. I will take you to be my wife in faithfulness, and you will know the Lord.” (Hosea 2:16-20)
You can see a parallel to this in the story of the Samaritan woman at the well. She had had so many husbands before, all of whom abused or betrayed her. Jesus meets her at the well (the place where many couples in the Old Testament met) and invites her to follow Him. A “husband” who is true and faithful, and perfectly loving.
That’s the kind of relationship He wants with you. 💗
